We are 3 days away from the kick off of the Disneyland 60th Anniversary Celebration! Can you believe it??? For those of you who have been followed this History series since the beginning, or even if this is your first time reading, THANK YOU! I have enjoyed writing it, and learning some random facts.

May 22nd, 2005

Disney Legend and voice actor Thurl Ravenscroft passed away at age 91 in Fullerton, CA. Thurl was not only the voice of Tony the Tiger, he also brought characters to life in Alice in Wonderland, The Aristocats, and can be heard on Disneyland attractions such as The Haunted Mansion & Pirates of the Caribbean.



May 23rd, 1983

Disneyland continues with the re-opening of the newly refurbished Fantasyland. The children of those who crossed the drawbridge as kids in 1955 are the first to re-enter 28 years later. It is only the second time the drawbridge has been lowered!

May 24th, 2013 

The Monstrous Summer 24-hr event kicks off at Disneyland and Walt Disney World.



May 25th, 1983

Pinocchio’s Daring Journey officially opens to the public as a part of Disneyland’s new Fantasyland.



May 26th, 1920

Actress and singing legend Peggy Lee is born in Jamestown, North Dakota. Peggy contributed greatly to Lady and the Tramp, not only voicing “Peg” at the pound, but also voicing the Siamese cats Si & Am. She also co-wrote all of the film’s songs.

May 27th, 1977

Disneyland holds an opening ceremony for it’s newest attraction, Space Mountain.


May 28th, 1966

It’s a Small World opens in Disneyland after it’s run at the World’s Fair. It’s theme song, known well by many all over the world, was written by the legendary Sherman Brothers as a song of hope and peace.
