Welcome to the fourth installment of the Spotlight on Disney Fine Artist series. This week the spot light is on Kaleena Foster and her shop Only In Dreams Designs.
Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Kaleena Foster and I am the crafter and owner of Only In Dreams Designs. I make a variety of products from picture frames, to jewelry, hair accessories and more. I work with a lot of up-cycled products and I’m heavy on Disney influence.
What inspired you to start?
I started crafting just as a creative outlet. I used to write a lot but with the social media world evolving I wasn’t as inclined to do that anymore. I slowly started crafting as an outlet.
I have always loved Disney and books… The whole using books to make frames just was a whim I had one day.
How do you work?
Honestly my creative process is kinda sporadic and a mess. I work best in chaos.
What are your favorite mediums to work with?
Modge podge is like my whole world haha. I also love using up-cylcled books and use them for most my products.
Favorite piece that you’ve done? It changes constantly.
How has your practice change over time?
The process hasn’t changed a lot I’ve just got better and more efficient at what I’ve done over time.
What work do you most enjoying doing?
I love new ideas and using books I’ve never used before.
What’s your strongest memory of your childhood that relates to Disney?
Growing up we went to Disneyland occasionally but not as much as I have as an adult. I remember spending hours watching Disney movies and listening to soundtracks growing up though. Disney has always been a big part of my life.
What themes do you pursue?
Almost anything Disney and Harry Potter. And I love Halloween stuff too.
Professionally, what’s your goal?
I don’t know that I really have one besides just continuing to be successful and being able to make people happy with what I make. Paying my bills would be great too haha.
What is your favorite Disney Character and why?
I have so many. I love Jack Skellington, and relate to him a lot. He’s so curious and finds inspiration around him. But he also makes mistakes. Those mistakes don’t get him down though and he works to redeem himself in the end.
I also love Peter Pan and the idea of never growing up.
