For the past couple months, Autopia has been one of the many Disneyland attractions that are temporarily closed for refurbishment. Autopia finally re-opened  last Friday after a four-month “tune-up”. It re-opened with a new color scheme, polished up the cars and Honda as the new sponsor.

The colors for the cars match the colors Honda uses for its cars. There were some other minor changes to the cars too, but the gas-powered cars still take a human to push the gas pedal

Disney Parks Blog posted a behind-the-scenes video to see how the cars have gotten a new look for their big return to the road. They even said there will be more updates as the year progress.

The large video screen over the loading area and a few smaller ones in the queue. The screens now show a retro animated video which is based on the short, “Disney’s Magic Highway.” I do miss the old que videos, but am pleased to see the tribute to the 1958 short.

It’s exciting to see the update to one of Walt’s classic attractions. I just hope the sponsorship with Honda will one day include hybrid vehicles. Honda has also sponsored Disneyland’s nightly fireworks display and the resort’s annual Grad Night celebrations since 2005, and was responsible for the now-departed Innoventions Asimo exhibit.
